Seafood for Dogs: What's Good, Bad, and Best

Puppies love seafood! Well, not all seafood, of course. But there are certain types of seafood that are good for dogs and puppies, and others that you should avoid feeding them altogether. In this blog post, we'll take a look at what seafood is safe for your furry friend and why it's beneficial to their diet. We'll also cover the seafood items that you should avoid giving your pup, because they can be harmful to their health.

The Good:

Seafood that is good for dogs includes salmon, tuna, shrimp, and crab. These seafood items are packed with protein and omega-fatty acids, which are great for your pup's skin and coat. Salmon is also a good source of vitamins A and D, while tuna contains vitamin B12. Vitamins A and D help keep your pup's immune system strong, while vitamin B12 is essential for healthy red blood cells. Shrimp is low in calories but high in nutrients, making it a good choice for pups who are watching their weight. Crab is a lean protein source that is also low in calories.

The Bad:

There are some types of seafood that you should avoid feeding your dog, as they can be harmful to their health. These include fish with high levels of mercury, such as swordfish and shark. You should also avoid giving your dog raw seafood, as it may contain bacteria that can make them sick. Finally, fish bones can be a choking hazard for dogs, so be sure to remove them before feeding your pup seafood.

The Best:

When it comes to seafood for dogs, the best option is cooked salmon. Salmon is packed with nutrients that are great for your pup's health, and it's a lean protein source that is low in calories. You can cook salmon in a variety of ways, such as baking, grilling, or poaching. Just be sure to remove the skin and bones before feeding it to your dog.

So there you have it! Seafood can be a great addition to your pup's diet, as long as you choose the right type and cook it properly. Alternatively, there are a range of seafood-based oils and treats that be added to supplement your dogs diet. Check them out here :)
